I met up with some of the lovely ladies from my writing group today and had a great time, not least because it involved Going On a Train, which is one of my favourite things. Looking out of the window I saw so many things that triggered story ideas I ended up writing one on the way back. I'd never have done that if I'd gone by car. Not without something deeply unpleasant happening.
One of the oddest sights was a man on a tennis court playing tennis - by himself. As you can imagine, this involved rather a lot of running back and forth. Unless his opponent was invisible.
I don't think I could make a sensible story out of that, but if you have any thoughts I'm more than happy to try.

I like travelling by train, too. Since I don't drive, it is often the best way for me to get from A to B. Even when I am on a route I know very well from frequent journeys, I always see something different, and it is time I can use entirely for myself, either reading or just looking out of the window.
Wow! What a writer's mind seeing a story in everything. Mmm Playing tennis by himself? Definitely a 'ghostie story' in there do you think? Although if the opponent was just invisible presumbaly the balls would be being returned? Spooky!

I don't like train travel - but I must admit every time I go on a train and particularly if I'm alone, I do feel inspired!

All the very best with your novelicious entry - it's a great blurb for a novel! I love travelling by train (so does husband) and get so much writing done by pen and paper if by myself. If it's abroad, it's great for scenery watching.
I love trains too and I know lots of writers get inspiration on them. I did laugh at the man playing tennis by himself. I am off to look at the novelicious thing now.
Librarian - There WAS a net, he kept hitting the ball over then running to the other side picking it up, and hitting it back! I suppose it's good exercise.
Sue - I like the idea of a ghostie story :o) It probably would have been quicker to drive, but much less stressful by train.

Yes, being on a train is probably the only time I write in a notepad with an actual pen, instead of using the laptop :o)
Cait - It was a bit puzzling, but maybe he'd been let down by a tennis partner and didn't want to waste time!

I love writing on the train! My town has one commuter line that goes from downtown to the little town just north of us and back again. It's a great place to get writing done!
